Content Delivery Network(CDN)

A content Delivery Network is a geographically distributed network of proxy servers and their data centers.

The goal is to distribute service spatially relative to end-users toprovide high availability and performance.

CNDs serve a large fraction of the internet content , including, web objects(text, graphics and scripts), downloadble objects(media, files, software, documents) and social media.

The term CDN is an umbrella term spanning different types of content dilivery services.

Media companies and e-commerce vendor pay CND operators to deliver their content to their end-users, in turn a CND pays ISPs(Internet service provider),carriers and network operators for hosting its servers in their data center.
